First Technical talk of the new academic year, great turnout :P

With great pleasure, I wish to tell you that the technical talk yesterday was an out and out success. This seminar flagged off our technical fest Techtatva09 as it was the first event of the fest. We had started the publicity as soon as we got approval for it, got posters designed, put up stalls and info desks at all corners of the campus and also announced in all classes for it. We also sent hundreds of SMS'es to students and emails informing them of the seminar.
We had a participation of 240 students which comprised of students of all four years of engineering, MCA and Mtech students. The venue was packed fully and we even had to put up extra chairs to accommodate people. Abhishek did a great job as always with his speech where he talked about OpenSolaris and all its features like ZFS, Dtrace etc . He also talked in great detail about its newly added features like time slider, device drivers, package manager etc and explained in a lot of detail, the ins and outs of OpenSolaris.
We also gave out Tshirts and other goodies to people who answered questions correctly. We also got very good response from the students who attended the seminar and the fact that they refused the option of a break in between the talk, makes it obvious that they all had a great time during the talk.
It lasted for almost three continous hours and was very informative and highly technical, yet Abhishek did not fail to keep peoples' interest and enthusiasm up throughout, with his unique style of interacting with the audience.
At the end,I also talked about OSUM, its various features and importance, and invited everyone to join it.
Abhishek also did the formulation of Manipal OpenSolaris Group and we have announced an install fest soon by public demand. I am more than happy with the response and enjoyed the whole experience completely.

I would like to extend my thanks to Shirish for making it possible, Abhishek for taking all the trouble of coming down here and giving the wonderful talk, Ganesh and Rajesh for their guidance and help.
