Andrew Browne ARC Using up all available RAM

ZFS ARC can consume a lot of RAM. It'll pretty much use all it can, and it usually does. A friend of mine commented that having no free RAM available was a strange idea. He didn't like the thought of those resources being taken. Heres a little analogy I thought up to explain why the ARC using your available RAM is good.. Imagine you have a fridge (your RAM), down the road is a shop selling a variety of food and you can get it all for free - the only cost is the time it takes you to walk down th… Continue

Marc Moreau My OpenSolaris beginnings

I installed OpenSolaris today as a VirtualBox client following the instructions given in [1]. I am primarily a Linux guy so I don't really know what to expect from OpenSolaris. Is it Solaris with an opensourced kernel, a cross between the GNU/Linux world and Solaris or something completely different? We will see. My primary reason for install OpenSolaris is to play with ZFS. Having worked with ZFS in a production environment for about year, I recently started looking into how ZFS actually works… Continue

安装使用zfs-fuse所需要的包 sudo apt-get install build-essential libfuse-dev libaio-dev zlib1g-dev scons 2. Continue

Lincoln Bryant FreeBSD, ZFS, and a headless zombie server OF DOOM! (pt 1)

At work I have a Dell PowerVault 715N storage unit. It's a 1U NAS with four 120GB IDE drives at 7200RPM, with 1 GB of RAM and a Pentium III clocked at around 1GHz. It's headless and has a serial port and two Intel-based NICs. It's currently running Fedora Core 2. For whatever reason, Solaris doesn't have Serial port A activated by default, so I had to go in and add a serial connection for 'tip' to use. I basically followed the guide here:… Continue

Achmad Mardiansyah Solaris ZFS, basic concepts

sorry, saya jawab seadanya dulu yah, versi lengkap tentang Solaris ZFS sedang dibuat jadi artikel. Continue
