My OpenSolaris beginnings

I installed OpenSolaris today as a VirtualBox client following the instructions given in [1]. I am primarily a Linux guy so I don't really know what to expect from OpenSolaris. Is it Solaris with an opensourced kernel, a cross between the GNU/Linux world and Solaris or something completely different? We will see.
