For our OSUM Webinars, we will use an internet-based, shared whiteboard and application program called Elluminate Live!. Elluminate Live! is Java based so it runs on Solaris, Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It is a good idea to get Elluminate Live! up and running on your computer right way, before attending your first OSUM Webinar.
The software does have some basic system requirements:
Minimum System Requirements:
Note that you must have speakers to hear the audio portion of Elluminate Live! Sessions. Microphones are not required because you will ask your questions and interact with other participants using chat.
Java Web Start comes bundled with Java SE 5.0 and 6.0. Also, Java Web Start is already installed if you are running Mac OS X. If you have an earlier version of Java and are unsure whether you have Java Web Start, visit the Elluminate Live! download page:

After you have installed Java Web Start on your machine, running the Elluminate Live! demo will ensure your system is configured properly. Visit
Click on the "Participant Orientation" recorded session link. It will take a few moments to download, cache, and initialize the Java application. You will likely need to adjust the volume on your speakers. Note that you must also adjust the volume slider on the Elluminate Live! interface as well. This is a very useful demo which will familiarize you with the application. For further reading, consult either the "Elluminate Live! Quick Reference Guide for participants" or "Elluminate Live! User Guide for participants" on the same web page.
When it comes time an OSUM Webinar, you can join your session by visiting the URL listed in the OSUM Event "Website or Map:" field.
When you launch the Elluminate Live! Session, it will prompt for a user name. Please enter your full name.
Please join the session 5-10 minutes before the scheduled time to make sure you can connect successfully.
